Tri Mulyani Sunarharum (Yani) got her PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia in 2016. During her study, she was the first Asian awarded as the QUT Student Leader of the Year 2015. The awards recognises students from QUT for outstanding leadership and engagement, both within the university and the wider community. In 2016, she was crowned as Miss Indonesia Diaspora. After completing her study, Dr. Yani undertook internship at the office of Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta for Spatial Planning and Environment and worked as consultant of Plan International Indonesia in developing Grand Design of Child Friendly City for Jakarta. She also worked as Program Manager of Resilient Jakarta Secretariat, hosted by Jakarta Capital City Government and supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. She is a former collaborating Researcher of United Nation Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD).
She has been invited as speakers for dozens of academic and professional talks. She was involved as Chair and Committee of several International Conferences, including World and Asian Planning School Congress 2022. She was the Transition Expert Team for the New Capital City of Indonesia (IKN) Authority Government 2022.
Currently, Dr. Yani holds some roles, including: (1) Secretary Program of Master of Urban and Regional Planning, Department of Architecture and Planning, Universitas Gadjah Mada; (2) Vice Chair of Center of Excellence for Hazard and Risk Management, Faculty of Engineering, UGM; (3) Expert Team at Center of Regional Development Planning of UGM; (4) Secretary 2 of Indonesian Planning School Association (ASPI); (5) Secretary of Working Group 4 of Urban and Regional Planning of Indonesian Engineer Association; (6) Expert Team for Developing 20 Indonesian Iconic Cities 2023; and (7) Associate of Resilience Development Initiative (RDI).
Her research interests are in the area of urban and regional planning, urban resilience, disaster risk reduction, nature-based solutions, water sensitive planning, collaborative planning, place branding, urban regeneration, circular economy, and sustainable development.
