Dr. Mirza Hanif Al Falah is a dedicated lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), specializing in the fields of Limnology, Paleolimnology, and Paleoecology. He completed his doctoral degree in Environmental Science through the prestigious PMDSU (Master’s to Doctorate for Excellent Graduates) fast-track program, demonstrating exceptional academic commitment and research potential.

His research primarily focuses on the use of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) as biological indicators to reconstruct long-term environmental and climate changes. He is deeply interested in bridging traditional taxonomy with modern molecular techniques, such as environmental DNA (eDNA), to assess biodiversity and ecological stability in diverse aquatic settings—ranging from high-altitude lakes in the Dieng Plateau to tropical mangrove ecosystems across Java and Madura.

Dr. Mirza holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, all from Universitas Diponegoro. His academic journey is marked by significant international exposure, including a research fellowship at the Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences, and the University of Warsaw, where he refined his expertise in sediment stratigraphy and paleoenvironmental modeling.
