| Abstrak/Abstract | Bengkoang or Pachyrhizus e rosus has been used as a traditional cosme tic material since man y years ago. Until now, many cosme tic prepara tions using bengkoang as a main mate rial have been produced by co smetic industries, mainly for skin care, whitening and sunscreen prepa ration. However, content of vitamin A, vitamin C and alpha h ydroxyl acid has not b een discovered ye t. These compounds are essen tial in s kin care process because of their activities in ce ll regene ration, antioxidant as we ll as peeling of dead skin cell layer. The aim of this research is to p rovide informa tion about the conte nt of th ree compounds in bengkoang. Vita min A has been analysed by spectrophotomete r, vitamin C analysed using titrat ion me thod and alpha hydroxyl acid analys ed using gas chroma tography. The resu lt showed tha t concentra tions of vitamin A and vitamin C a re 179.21 ± 8.19 pp m and 0.31 ± 0.06 %, re spectively. Mean while the content of a lpha hyd roxyl acid was 0.80 ± 0.01% (mea sured a s glycolic acid). |
