Abstrak/Abstract Interindividual different in response toward drugs has been reported since 5 decades ago. Since then, s tudies about genetic varia tion that responsible for this di ffer response growth fas tly. Receptors , channels, metaboli zing enzymes, transporters has been known to affected by this polymorphisms. Wi thin these, metabolizing enzymes (phase I and phase II ) is one of the mos t important a rea to s tudy. It is reported that in the metaboli zing enzyme family, cytochrome P450 (CYP450) is responsible for 70-80% of phase I dependent metabolism. and is mediate for almos t 50% of the overall elimination of commonly used drugs . Thi family of enzyme metaboli ze large type of drug. Even thought i ts is attract many of research group across the globe, the data of CYP polymorphism in Indonesian population is very limi ted. Most of genetic polymorphism s tudies in Indonesian population mainly were done in a rea of malaria or phase II metabolizing enzyme. However, there are some reports about the polymorphism of CYP450 in Indonesian population even though those s tudies not mainly focus on the genetic polymorphism comparison of CYP450 gene between Indonesian ethnics . The role o the genetic polymorphism in this enzyme for clinical pharmacy practice is dis cussed.
