Mental disorders cause disability, burden, reduce self-productivity of ODGJ and their families in various aspects of their lives. The number of mental health cases in the working area of the Mlati II Health Center was 88 ODGJ in 2020 with the majority of them being of productive age and many who do not have jobs in their daily lives. Making ODGJ independent is an indicator in the treatment and care process for ODGJ. One of the rehabilitation techniques for ODGJ is work therapy that has productive benefits, social interactions and impaired self-concept experienced by ODGJ.
The role and involvement of the family in the care and treatment process for ODGJ supports the treatment process. Family members who act as caregivers need to be increased. The participation of stakeholders also needs to be optimized because the participation of ODGJ in occupational rehabilitation activities at the center has not been intensively trained, with a total of only 5 people and rehabilitation in the hamlet is also less than optimal due to limited resources and unsustainable programs. Based on the conditions of ODGJ and the existing programs in the Mlati II Health Center Work Area, it is very appropriate to do community service with the theme of occupational therapy. Community service activities are expected to empower caregivers and stakeholders through occupational therapy in increasing the independence of people with mental disorders (ODGJ) in the working area of the Mlati II Health Center.
