Orthodontic equipment utilization for a long period negatively impacts periodontal tissues and oral cavity health.
Various methods are carried out to accelerate orthodontic dental treatments, one of which is by surgery such as corticotomy and
piezocision techniques. Comparing the effectiveness of corticotomy and piezocision techniques in accelerating orthodontic
dental movements. The corticotomy surgery technique procedure was more invasive than the piezocision technique. The
corticotomy technique could accelerate orthodontic dental movements 1.5-2 fold, while the piezocision technique accelerated it
by 1.5 fold than conventional orthodontic treatments. Both techniques did not deliver significant effects on periodontal tissue
health, dental root resorption, the loss of molar dental adherence, and the pain compared to conventional treatments. Furthermore,
canine rotation in both techniques was higher than any conventional orthodontic methods; however, the movement was
insignificant. Effects of corticotomy and piezocision techniques in accelerating orthodontic dental movements were similar.
The piezocision technique was more acceptable to patients since it was less invasive than the corticotomy technique.
