Nowadays, there are a growing number of infections treated with definitive antimicrobials based on the result of bacterial culture and sensitivity test. Nevertheless, there are some infectious diseases using empiric antimicrobial therapy in certain conditions. In this research, a comparative analysis was conducted on the effectiveness of empirical and definitive antimicrobial therapy on hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and diabetic foot infections (DFIs). The research was carried out retrospectively on the medical records of patients diagnosed with HAP (n= 116) and DFIs (n = 97) and meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients were in the inpatient ward at Sardjito Hospital in January 2013 - December 2015. It is shown that there is a significant difference between length of stay of definitive antimicrobial therapy and empiric therapy in both HAP and DFIs patients. In both group of patients, it is proven that definitive antimicrobial therapy administration will improve clinical outcome significantly.
