THE EFFECT OF SIMPLEX POWDER n-HEXANE PURIFICATION
TO ANTIPLATELET ACTIVITY OF GOTU KOLA ETHANOLIC
EXTRACT IN VITRO

In many years, gotu kola (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) has been used in
the prevention of degenerative diseases. This plant also has many
advantages to use in heal th care system, since it has been proven have
an antioxidant activity. In this study, we have investigated whether
hexane purification on simplex powder of gotu kola ethanolic extract
(GKE) had affect on its antiplatelet activity. Gotu kola ethanolic extract
was evaluated in vi tro for the antiplatelet activity based on Bohr
method using Chronolog agregometer. In in vitro assay using freshly SD
rats platelet-rich plama (PRP), the platelet agregation was reported as
percentage (%) of aggregation at a given time interval from reagen
(ADP 5µM) addition. The resul t showed that GKE has an antiplatelet
activity. The extract without n-hexane purification on simplex powder
(GKE-NHP) has a lower percentage of platelet aggregation rather than
gotu kola ethanolic extract with hexane purification on simplex powder
(GKE-HP) in concentration 200µg/ml. In fact, GKE-NHP has a lower
percentage of platelet aggregation rather than asetosal 1mM. This study
demonstrate that n-hexane purification on simplex powder of GKE
significantly can improve i ts antiplatelet activity.
