Abstrak/Abstract Knockdown is one of the construction systems for wooden structures which is applicative, practical, high-flexibility, using dowels or bolts as connectors, and most widely applied in Indonesia. One example of the connection systems in the knockdown construction is the Glue-in Rods (GIROD) connection. GIROD is a frequently used connection because it is easy to install, economical, high local force transfer, and the strength can be adjusted according to the connector used. There are several types of failures in the GIROD connection system, i.e., pull-out failure of dowels, timber shear failure, splitting of timber block failure, and yielding of dowels failure. The most hazardous type of failure is yielding of dowels failure which can cause collapse permanently. This research has investigated to predict the optimum anchorage length of GIROD connection in order to avoid yielding of dowels failure taking into consideration timber species, dowel types and diameter. A new method was proposed based on Steiger’s formula with a slight modification. The anchorage length was investigated in various type of connection, including Keruing wooden dowel, deformed steel dowel, and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GRFP) dowels in various dowel’s diameter and anchorage length. Pull out the test was performed until the connection was a failure. The results showed that the higher of the anchorage length makes the pull-out strength higher until reaching a certain limit of failure. After reaching a certain limit of failure, the pull-out strength remains constant. The ultimate pull-out strength of Keruing wooden dowel, deformed steel dowel, and GFRP having a diameter of 13 mm is 18 kN, 64 kN, and 65.13 kN, respectively. The new method can be applied to deformed steel dowel and Keruing wooden dowel, but can not be applied to GFRP dowels because it shows overestimate results.
