Abstrak/Abstract
Bali cattle were native Indonesian cattle that were well known throughout
Indonesia and were generally favored by smallholder farmers. Bali cattle were well
adapted to various environments, so it must be conserved and preserved. The source
areas for Bali cattle breeds were the Bali island, South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara
(NTT), and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Most of the population on the Bali island
were farmers. This paper will be studying the current profile of Bali cattle farmers at
smallholder farms in Bali island. This research was conducted in Kintamani and
Gianyar; the areas planned to be the Bali cattle breeds' source. The method used in
this study was the Participating Rural Appraisal (PRA) survey to determine the
farmer's profile. The parameters are the farmer's age, education level, occupation,
farming experience, land ownership, cattle ownership, maintenance management, and
estrus detection ability. The result showed that most farmers have old age, low
education, the main job was breeders and had low livestock ownership. It concluded
that the positive aspect of the farmer's profile for the future was the long farming
experience and good detection ability.
