Abstrak/Abstract City as a center of service and activities is inseparable from the phenomenon of urbanization, which leads to the increasing number of citizens annually. The increasing number of population while at the same time the area of the land remains unchanged can make the city becomes denser and probably make the phenomenon of sprawling around the suburban inevitable. Further, such occasion may trigger the rise of numerous urban problems be it traffic congestion, air pollution, substandard dwellings, slums and so on. Then there are some urban development concepts which are derived from the sustainable development principles, such as compact city and healthy city concepts. Both concepts have the same goal to improve the citizens’ welfare. Nowadays, some cities in Indonesia are experiencing the extention of physical urban characteristics which forms the urban area. One of those is Kawasan Perkotaan Yogyakarta (KPY) which is the result of the agglomeration of Yogyakarta City. By taking into account the concept of urban compactness and urban health into the spatial development of KPY, it is expected that this urban area will become more sustainable. The aim of this research is to examine the correlation between both concepts within the KPY boundaries. The method used in this research is deductive-quantitative by using Structural Equational Modelling (SEM) statistical analysis with 95% confidence level. Based on the analysis done in this research, it is identified that several variables of the urban compactness and health show a high rate but have yet to reach the ideal value. After being analyzed by SEM, it is proven that urban compactness and urban health models fit into each other. However, the correlation value between those models is negative. For each 1 increase in urban health measurement will reduce 0,743 urban compactness measurement.
