A new unsymmetrical urea derivative:MH2011 or 1-(4-hydroxynaphtalen-1-yl)-3-(p-hydroxyphenyl)urea (code-name as MH2011) has successfully been synthesized. This new urea derivative was designed to have an analgesic activity and a lower hepatotoxic side effect compared to paracetamol. Synthesis of MH2011 was carried out using a similar method for the synthesis of symmetrical urea: 1,3-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)urea (HP2009). The result showed that by using molar ratios of p-aminophenol, 4-amino-1-naphthol hydrochloride, and urea 2:2:9.5 evaporating time 30 minutes and refluxing for 1hr gave the product 76.5% in yields. The synthetic product was characterized using spectroscopic methods and showed undoubtedly that the product was 1-(4-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)-3-(p-hydroxyphenyl)urea.
