There are two zones of space for the activities of the residents of nursing home. The first zone is formal zone, usually rooms for the formal activities which can be a meeting room, an art workshop and an auditorium. The second is informal zone, which commonly appears as spaces usually used for informal and communal activities, even though it is not specifically designed for such activities. This study attempts to discern the pattern of space usage in the informal spaces in the nursing home in order to identify the criteria for an ideal informal communal spaces for the elderly.
