Abstrak/Abstract | Background: Public health center (PHC) nurses’ role in providing care in the lower- and middle-income countries is essential since most patients receiving palliative care are staying at home. However, there is limited evidence in the implementation of online training for this group. A recent study in Indonesia showed that the knowledge of PHC nurses of palliative care was still relatively low. In order to enhance the quality of palliative care, Indonesia needs to speed up the knowledge transfer for nurses. We are presenting a protocol to provide an online training for PHC nurses as frontliners in community services in Indonesia. Methods: We are conducting an RCT for online education on palliative care for PHC nurses in Indonesia. Around forty-four participants will be randomly assigned into intervention and control groups. Data will be collected in 4 time points: before and immediately after intervention and 4 weeks and 8 weeks post-intervention. Qualitative information is to be collected to explore the experiences of the participants in following the SPARK program. Discussion: We will provide a training for PHC nurses in Indonesia, one of the health care settings that received the least attention to palliative care education in developing countries. Topics on the current intervention were selected based on a thorough literature review in this field in order to cover important materials for PHC nurses. Online-based training is cost-effective and becomes one of the solutions for continuing nursing education in Indonesia. Data from this study will inform us on the effectiveness of educational program for palliative care using online method for low-middle income countries like Indonesia |
