The spectral-element methods (SEM) have long been applied to make model of wave propagation for seismological research by providing more geometrical flexibility and accurate wave simulations for complex earth models over Tiris Geothermal Area along Mount Lamongan-Ranu Segaran.
In this study, we investigate the applicability of SEM for geothermal exploration purposes of the geological Tiris- Probolinggo. We use the 200x80 Grid mesh to represent a model with 10 km x 5 km dimensions. Model created represents tentative models of geological of Tiris Geothermal Area (TGA) along the Mt. Lamongan-Ranu Segaran, with topographic data obtained from the digitized ASTER/DEM map. Specification of the system used is, AMD APU A- 84555M with Rodeon (tm) HD Graphics 1.60 GHz 6 GB, with Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr 64 Bit Linux operating system. Therefore, the SEM can be naturally applied to exploration and effectively for Tiris geothermal exploration problems as a preliminary study. Time required to complete the simulation with the existing computer system is 19 minutes 18.44 Second.
