Abstrak/Abstract |
In Indonesia, the cattle breeding business, especially in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, was smallholder farmers, which rely on cut and carry grass as the main ration for cows. Forage was obtained around their farm; there was still land overgrown with plants that grow naturally for those in the vicinity. Almost the smallholder farmers look for forage far from the farm's location, in other villages, and some even come from other districts. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, several regulations have been enforced to prevent transmission, including prohibiting people from entering and leaving other areas, closing access to a site, and closing animal markets for an undetermined time. The enactment of this prohibition affects, either directly or indirectly, the cattle farming business. If the smallholder farmers who have located the forage source far from the farm, going out and entering other areas caused farmers difficulty getting their cattle feed. The problem of finding forage affects the cows' condition, especially when the cows are pregnant. For this reason, community service activities were carried out in 4 smallholder farmers group as partners. The main objective of improving the quality of feed for pregnant cows so that pregnancy is safe until it is time to parturition. The calves can be born with adequate birth weight and healthy. Activities carried out include counseling on the maintenance system for pregnant cows, providing quality concentrate feed for pregnant cows, demonstrating the planting of superior animal feed crops. The activity results showed that cows that were given concentrate assistance could give birth normally. Calves were born with average birth weight (30-42kg) and healthy. The cow's body condition was good (body condition score 3 from 5). The smallholder farmers in the partner group are very enthusiastic about participating in the service activities. This service activity concludes that in a situation where there is a disaster estimated to impact the cattle breeding business, it requires attention, assistance, and care to maintain livestock productivity. |
