Abstrak/Abstract The quality of life of patients become an essential part because it can be a reference to the success of an intervention. Mandible resection would cause discontinuities that can degrade the quality of life of patients. Extensive resection and reconstruction will affect the quality of life of patients after resection and reconstruction surgery when compared with the situation before surgery. Cross-sectional study was conducted among 27 subjects. The subjects were patients suffering from a benign tumor of the mandible that surgical procedure has been taken as marginal resection, segmental resection, or hemimandibulectomy at Dr. Sardjito Hospital in 2010-2015. Quality of life of patients after resection and reconstruction measures mandible measured with modified Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14). An assessment of the quality of life before and after surgery based on gender and type of reconstruction and analyzed by using t-test and one-way ANOVA. The quality of life of patients with benign tumors increased significantly (p=0,000), differences in gender did not affect the improved quality of life significantly (p=0,433). The mean score patient’s quality of life was highest on the type of marginal resection (mean value =14,50), and the lowest was segmental resection (mean value=7,50), but the type of resection did not influence significantly improved quality of life (p=0,152). Resection and reconstruction procedures undertaken by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Dr. Sardjito Hospital can improve quality of life for patients with benign tumors of the lower jaw.
