Diabetes mellitus is chronic, the prevalence has increased and the public health epidemic is still increasing. Depression is highly prevalent in diabetes mellitus. Some causes contribute to mellitus and depression of diabetes. This systematic review is intended to estimate the prevalence of depression level among diabetes mellitus patients in countries of Southeast Asia. The selection process for the analysis was planned in accordance with the criteria for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Studies were obtained from PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar via an online web-based search. For the
systematic analysis of the literature, the search words "depression" And "diabetes," "depression AND diabetes AND (Singapore , Thailand, Indonesia , Malaysia, Vietnam)" were used. Literature reviews were performed from April to July 2020. Data analysis was using concise and narrative presentations. There were 11 studies in the Southeast Asia with 5,165 participants. The degree of depression is higher in diabetes mellitus. In diabetic patients, high risk of depression was due to comorbidity, complications, period of illness, elderly, unemployment, divorce and living alone. Our review showed the existence of depression incidence and depression-related
factors in diabetic patients. This review may provide new evidence of depression causes in diabetic patients. Early diagnosis was needed to avoid the incidence, to treat both depression and diabetes mellitus to ensure the better outcomes |
