Abstrak/Abstract Every country is exploring its own sources for solving the energy problems. Most of them are focused on developing the utilization of new and renewable energy sources. Vision of New and Renewable Energy 25/25 declared by Indonesian Government in 2010 states that by 2025 new and renewable energy should fulfill 25% of total Indonesia energy demand Human resources with appropriate competence are needed in fulfilling the target. The engineering education could play the important role in this field within the frame of three mission of higher education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi). In the learning field, the department implements Student Centered Learning (SCL) and Research Based Learning (RBL) methods for improving the student’s knowledge based on real energy problem solving. The main idea is to bring the students into the real problem by designing the synergy of several courses. The new learning approaches successfully encouraged the student’s technopreneurship in order to answer the real community’s energy problems. More than 10 new and renewable energy system based products/year are produced within the new learning approaches. Several of them have been installed in and utilized by the community. Simultaneously, it is also an answer for a challenge of creating green jobs.
