Abstrak/Abstract |
Strawberry is a small fruit that cultivated and popular through United States, Europe, and Asia including Indonesia. One of strawberry quality improvement in Indonesia is muthagen (colchicine treatment). This technique gives change to genotype and phenotype. Changes of phenotype related to the visual appearance of strawberries that affect public interest. Phenotype plants not only morphology but also anatomy. The purpose of the research were to study the morphological characters, anatomical characters, and effect of different colchicine concentration on roots, stems, leaves, and fruit anatomy of strawberry Fragaria vesca L. subsp. californica (Cham. & Schltdl.) treated with colchicine and control.
The samples consist of control; 0,05% colchicine induced strawberry at roots and shoots; and 0,1% colchicine induced strawberry at shoots. Morphological characters observed and documented. Then, samples were preserved and prepared for observing anatomical characters. Morphological characters on control and colchicine induced were almost same. The different characters between control and colchicine induced only on runner plant rooting, time of fruit ripening, leaf size, fruit size, fruit shape, external fruit colour, flesh colour, fruit acidity. Anatomical on control and colchicine induced were same but the size of the cells was different. The effect of different colchicine concentration was cell size.
