Research on the diversity and abundance of snakes on Gadjah Wong River has been conducted in 2014, nevertheless after five years there are physical changes along the river which may affect the diversity and abundance of snakes. This study aims to determine the abundance of snakes in the Gadjah Wong River in 2019, and compare to the previous data in 2014. This study used VES (Visual Encounter Survey), riverbank crushing and transects along the riverbank. Sampling was done in three locations i.e. upstream, middle, and downstream of river, and each location divided into three sampling points. The results showed that there were six species of snakes, i.e. Ahaetulla prasina, Ahaetulla sp., Xenochrophis triangularis, Xenochrophis melanzostus, Dendrelaphis pictus from family Colubridae, and Homalopsis buccata from the family Homalopsidae. Ahaetulla prasina was the most abundant species in the Gadjah Wong River. The diversity and abundance of the snakes in the upstream and downstream in Gadjah Wong river in 2019 was lower than that in 2014. The diversity and abundance of the snakes in 2019 had a higher value due to the absent of sand mining that was found previously at the downstream in 2014. |
