In the late adulthood phase somebody has decline the body’s function like biological, psychological, or social therefore the elderly’s life often perceived as a frail, helpless, and low capacity. Those perceiving cause the elderly have less opportunity to keep doing their activity in this phase. In Yogyakarta, this research took place there are many elderly still work although their age is not young anymore, otherwise in Javanese culture believed that late adulthood is the stage where someone leaving the mundane things and preparing to face the death (mungkur). This research used a phenomenological method that aims to know how the Javanese elderly interpreting the meaning of work so that can be known, does working effecting well?being for the elderly’s life. The results shows the reason of Javanese elderly still work to keep independent to fulfil their daily needs. Work for them also have meaning as an activity, existence, and social relation. Those meanings of work for elderly become the things that useful to fulfil their socio?psychological needs, to create successful aging and increase well?being in the late adulthood. |
