The culture that developed in Lasem is a form of cultural acculturation of the three cultural elements; Java, Arab and Chinese. The role of Lasem as a city that experienced a long acculturation process began to fade. The old residential area began to be abandoned by its inhabitants thus impacting on the abandonment of heritage buildings and there are even some heritage buildings that have been replaced with new buildings. Based on the phenomenon, it is necessary to conduct research to find out the cultural vitality level of Chinese settlement in Karangturi. The level of cultural vitality is measured based on the objective assessment of the researcher and subjective assessment of the three respondents. The method used a deductive rationalistic approach, which compiling theories that are then formulating into several variables and indicators. The results of this research concluded from these four variables; (1) Society and Communities, (2) Diversity of Land Use and Social-Cultural Activities, (3) Physical Environment, (4) Urban Management. These four variables should be considered, not only in maintaining cultural continuity but also to improving the quality of the environment. Therefore, there is a need continuous society, community and government involvement in order to sustain its existence. |
