Ligation of External Carotid Artery in Hemimandibulectomy for AmeloblastomaExtending to Neck Region at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery departement of RSUP Dr Sardjito
An ameloblastoma extended to neck region could cause airway obstruction and it is considered life threatening. Nowadays, radical resection followed by reconstruction of the mandible is the definitive treatment for ameloblastoma. Hemimandibulectomy for ameloblastoma extended toneck region have difficulties in management and the risk of massive hemorrhage. One of the efforts to decrease the risk of hemorrhage during hemimandibulectomy is ligation of external carotid artery. A 44 years old male came to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of RSUP Dr Sardjito with folicular type ameloblastoma in the left mandible extending to neck region. In this case, hemimandibulectomy was successfully perfomed with minimal hemorrhage and no other complications after surgery. Ligation of external carotid artery is needed to decrease hemorrhage risk during surgery, but cerebral complication may occur, hence a proper preparation before procedure is mandatory
