Abstrak/Abstract Background: Learning media plays important role in facilitating learning for medical students, especially in Problem Based Learning (PBL) curriculum. TV-LEDs, LCDs, and whiteboards are learning medias, where each of them has their own advantages. TV-LEDs and LCDs are digital technologies, which considered more sophisticated compared to whiteboards. Undergraduate medical students in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FM UGM), Yogyakarta-Indonesia does tutorial twice in every week and supposed to use those learning medias to facilitate their tutorial discussions. It seems important to learn the effectiveness of TV-LEDs/LCDs compared to whiteboard as learning media in tutorial. Aims: To compare effectiveness of TV-LEDs/LCDs and whiteboards as learning medias in tutorial. Method: It is a cross-sectional study using both qualitative and quantitative measurements (mixed method). Total of 398 students: 3rd and 4th year undergraduate medical students of FM UGM recruited to be research subjects/respondents, those higher year students are expected to have more experience doing tutorial discussions using both TV-LEDs/LCDs and whiteboards. Data collected using questionnaire that composed of close-ended questions which are answered in likert-scale (quantitative), and open-ended questions which are answered narratively (qualitative). Quantitative data were analyzed based in ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) grouping method, meanwhile qualitative data were grouped to each type of answers. Results: Questionnaire result analysis based on ARCS are A = 3,68; R = 3,63; C = 3,69; S = 3,71. These results are indicating that students are eager and enthusiastic in using the technology of TV-LEDs/LCDs as learning media. Qualitative results points out benefits and limitations of both TV-LEDs/LCDs and whiteboards as learning media in PBL tutorial. Students also contribute suggestions to optimize benefits of both learning medias to facilitate learning in tutorial later. Conclusion: Utilization of TV-LEDs/LCDs as learning media in PBL tutorial are getting positive respone by medical students. TV-LEDs/LCDs are considered more effective and interactive rather than whiteboard. Students suggested TV-LEDs/LCDs are used side-by-side and combined together with whiteboard.
