During the Covid-19 pandemic where social distancing and isolation are known as the best solutions for suppressing Coronavirus don’t guarantee to stop crime. Street crimes, households, cyber, narcotics, corruption, and other crimes are still happening in this country. Meanwhile, the legal and criminological approaches do not discuss the ontology of crime related to the human subject. This paper examines the banality of evil from the point of view of Schopenhauer’s philosophy of Will (1788-1860). The philosophical analysis provides sharp insight into the issue of human crime. From the point of view of Schopenhauer’s philosophy, the fulfillment of human needs can trigger a person to do evil. This paper shows that: first, crime during the Covid-19 pandemic is understood as an affirmation of metaphysical Will; and second, it is understood as the absence of a moral life choice. This paper suggests restriction of the ego is an important thing to suppress human evil. |
