Information System Platform for Outbreak Investigation : A Case Study in Department of Biostatistic, Epidemiology and Public Health, Gadjah Mada University
Information on the spread of an epidemic is very
important and it’s needed for those working in the medical field.
The information will determine for action to be taken to prevent
the spread of an outbreak so as not to expand its impact. In
general, in conducting outbreak investigations, usually involves
two main parties namely investigator and decision maker.
Obstacles encountered in gathering information about the
spread of disease outbreaks are the exchange of information
(temporal and spatial data) that is not real time and manual
documentation between investigator with the decision maker.
So it takes time to process the data obtained in order to produce
a complete information that can be used as the basis of action to
handle disease outbreak. To overcome these problems, the
development of information system platform for outbreak
investigation based on website and mobile application play
important role for identifying cases and obtaining information
between investigator and decision maker, so the exchange of
information about outbreak investigation can be done more
quickly and real time. In addition, this system can also be used
to support medical party in determining the action to handle
outbreak cases.
