Abstrak/Abstract |
Digital fake news and hoax concerning politics have spread lately in Indonesia’s public sphere. Its
spread is dangerous to democracy and national stability when the digital disinformation contains
hatred and intolerance to religion and race.
Digital disinformation occurred during the political process of Gubernatorial Election of DKI
Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia since 2016 to 2017. It took forms of digital memes, links to
articles on websites, and digital manipulated pictures spread on social media. Those fake news and
hoax discredited all candidates of the election. It is uncertain how many society members had
believed those digital disinformation on DKI Jakarta’s gubernatorial politics. The loss of incumbent
candidates Ahok-Djarot has been considered as the victory of racially and religiously intolerant
digital disinformation. Therefore, it is indeed questionable why some people are gullible to fake
news and this issue is worth to investigate. This research also proposes gullibility to disinformation
as there is a tendency of user’s trust in disinformation.
Completed questionnaires were collected from 191 of citizens of DKI Jakarta who have had voting
rights and accessed online and digital disinformation. The study found that political partisanship,
diversity of media exposure, trust in media and digital fluency significantly influence the perceptions
towards online false information. Amonst those predictors, political partisanship is the one which
has highest influence. |
