Abstrak/Abstract Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus, Linn. 1758) is an aves that become an important needs for the Indonesian people to consume both meat and eggs. The high market demand from year to year makes broiler chicken dominating in the market because of its short time harvesting compared to Indonesian native chicken or kampung chicken. Kampung chicken has a better quality of meat and eggs when compared with broiler chicken, but it has relatively slow growth rate. Therefore, it is necessary to repair the genetic quality to improve the productivity of chicken. As the technology advances, the quality improvement can be done in a molecular level. One of the genes responsible for growth, bone and muscle formation in chickens is Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 Receptor gene (IGF-1R). Based on this, conducted this study to determine the effect ofIGF-1R exon 2 polymorphism in BC2 chicken derived fromcrosses of? BC1 and ? pelung. The study was conducted by intensive maintenance of 17 DOC BC2 in 7 weeks, observe the body weight and characters phenotype every week, the calculation of feed is spent to obtain the FCR. Molecular analysis of IGF-1R gene using DNA extracted from the blood was performed Polymerase Chain Reaction- Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) with Alu1 restriction enzyme and elektrophoresis. The results were analysed to study polymorphism of IGF-1R gene ekson 2 polymorphisms in BC2 chiken. The results showed that there were no polymorphism in exon 2 of IGF-1R gene on hybrid chickens BC2. All samples both DOC and breeders have homozygous CC genotype. The average weight gain of BC2 higher than pelung chicken but it is still below the broiler in the amount of 761.93 grams. Characters phenotype of BC2 hybrids have single comb character; legs are black, white/yellow, gray; and colored feathers.
