Background: Drooling is an accidental occurrence of saliva loss along with other oral content from the mouth. The family is the main character who always accompany and face the child's cerebral palsy. Knowing directly about family perception that can explain the picture of the need and care of children with CP who experienced drooling at YPAC Semarang, so a thorough exploratory study of maternal participants. The objective of this study was to exploring the needs and care and expectations of parents of children with CP who are drooling.
Method: Qualitative research with phenomenology approach conducted at YPAC Semarang in September 2016. Data collection was done by in-depth interview method to 6 maternal participants selected through purposive sampling and 1 doctor medical rehabilitation and 1 teacher as triangulation participant. Data analysis is done according to Collaizi steps.
Result: This research produces ten themes: need to overcome drooling; Overcome feelings of sadness, embarrassment, brokenness, low self-esteem, hurt, sensitivity, offended when children are humbled, do not bear, feelings of refusal, acceptance, fear and self-blame; Overcome child shame; Financing for child therapy; Strength, sense of spirit, gratitude, patience and endeavor; Accepted by society and concern by the government; Environmental modification; Coping with drooling; Poor understanding of mothers; Mother's expectation of foundation and government about health service, education, and child's independence.
Conclusion: Conclusion: Optimizing the fulfillment and care needs of CP children with grade IV and V drooling is to overcome drooling using drooling absorbent and long-term care. |
