Abstrak/Abstract Dissolved oxygen is one of the most important parameters in many industrial practices, such as liquid waste treatment and aquaculture farms. Micro bubble generator (MBG) is a novel aeration technology utilizing the concept of fluid flow through venturi channel, in which air is sucked into the flow by pressure difference and immediately push by high velocity flow of the fluid. This mechanism creates micro-size bubbles with higher dissolution rate. This study was focused on studying the effect of two most important operating parameters, i.e. volumetric flow rate of the liquid (QL) and volumetric flow rate of the air (QG), on the oxygen dissolution rate. The comparison among various combination of QL and QG was systematically conducted by means of oxygen mass transfer coefficient (kLa). The experiment was conducted in a transparent container of 2.8m x 0.6m x 0.4m filled with tap water and was aerated using orifice/porous pipe type MBG. Dissolved oxygen (DO) values were measured at the distances of 60 cm, 120 cm, dan 180 cm from the MBG output. The experiment was designed with five levels of QL values (30 LPM, 40 LPM, 50 LPM, 60 LPM, and 70 LPM) and five levels of QG values (0.2 LPM, 0.4 LPM, 0.6 LPM, 0.8 LPM, and 1 LPM). Results showed that kLa value, which is proportional to oxygen dissolution rate, increase asymptotically with increasing QL values. On the other hand, QG values did not significantly affect the kLa value.
