Abstrak/Abstract | This research involving the shooting test of ramie fiber composite plate to examine the minimum thickness of the ramie fiber composite plate that can resist bullet penetration. For this purpose, three thicknesses of ramie fiber reinforced composite were fabricated using manual hand layup proses. The plates are of the same fiber volume fractions. All the plates are shot using hand gun with 9 mm FMJ bullet. The residual speed of the bullet then was measured using ballistic pendulum to examine the plate resistant to bullet penetration. Results show that the epoxy only plates were broken and penetrated easily by the bullet. A relationship between plate thickness and bullet residual speed can be established. The composite plate, on the other hand gives a good resistant to bullet penetration on 20 and 29 mm plate thicknesses. However, the plate thickness at 10 mm is holed by the bullet. A minimum thickness for bullet penetration resistant then can be estimated using relationship between plate's thickness and bullet residual speed. |
