The present study investigated the effects of cassava powder and palm kernel cake with different ratios on intake and digestibility of Ongole Crossbreed steers fed rice straw based-diet. Total of 24 steers were located in individual cage. Animal diet consisted of rice straw and concentrate. Concentrate was prepared with different ratios of cassava powder and palm kernel following: 7:1 ratio (T1), 3:1 ratio (T2), 2:1 ratio (T3), 1:1 ratio (T4), and 1:2 ratio (T5). In a day, each animal was offered with rice straw at 5 g dry matter (DM)/kg of body weight, while concentrates were applied ad libitum during experimental period. Each dietary treatment used 5 steers as replication. Animals were fed twice a day with free water access and feeding duration consisted of 14 d for adaptation and 7 d of collection. The DM intake and organic matter (OM) intake did not affected by all dietary treatments. Dietary T2 presented higher (P<0.05) DM digestibility and digested organic matter than dietary T4 and T5. In OM digestibility, dietary T2 was higher (P<0.05) than dietary T5. Generally, dietary T2 numerically resulted the highest digestibility. In conclusion, dietary T2 presented greater beneficial effect on digestibility of Ongole Crossbreed steers. |
