States of synchronous generator are essential for
monitoring, control, and fault detection. However, not all states
are measurable for those purposes. This paper proposes Dynamic
State Estimation (DSE) generators using terminal measurements.
The proposed method uses a nonlinear filtering technique known
as Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). To accurately represent the
behavior of a synchronous generator, the sub-transient model
is utilized. The outcomes of the estimator are compared with
the actual states. The robustness of the proposal method is
tested on an SMIB system using various scenarios such as short
circuits, measurement and process noise, and step input. The
results of this paper demonstrate that the UKF method is able to
provide accurate state estimates of the sub-transient synchronous
generator model from noisy terminal measurements.
