Abstrak/Abstract |
This study aims to see Indonesian media coverage and focus on the practice of the journalism crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. The method used is a qualitative content analysis on the headline news on the frontpage cover of seven national newspapers (Kompas, Koran Tempo, Republika, Jakarta Post, Jawa Pos, Koran Sindo, Media Indonesia) and two online media (Tirto.id and CNN Indonesia.com) from January to August 2020. Also, to support the data analysis, this study will conduct a focus group discussion and in-depth interview with the relevant journalists, as well as the rigorous and relevant literature review within the topic. This study will implement the Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) framework by Reynolds and Seeger (2005) to break down the focus of media coverage in Indonesia before and during the pandemic. That way, this study hopes to see two things deliberately. First, whether the role of the media in distributing information during the crisis has worked well or has it distorted the information. It is also related to the second thing, namely how crisis journalism is practised in Indonesia during the pandemic. |
