HIV/AIDS case is increasing from year to year. The government has a policy giving antiretroviral drug for free to HIV/AIDS patients. But HIV/AIDS patients expend not only for antiretroviral drug, there are other expenses such as for opportunistic infection treatment and laboratory test. The objective of study was to evaluate average total cost and its componen in HIV/AIDS therapy.
The non-experimental study was done. The data were collected retrospectively from 38 outpatients and 88 inpatients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria such as completely medical record, including the identity, the diagnostic of HIV/AIDS and patients have antiretroviral therapy during the treatment in a Teaching Hospital Yogyakarta. The data were analyzed by descriptive method to describe the expenses of HIV/AIDS patients.
The result of study shows average total cost of outpatient with HIV/AIDS spent IDR 459.910,63 ± 191.722,31 per month. This amount including cost of antiretroviral drug spent IDR 331.122,31 ± 153.360,54, cost of non-antiretroviral drug IDR 31.802,82 ± 62.554,44 per month, cost for laboratory tes spent IDR 113.482,40 ± 98.604 per month, and miscellanous cost spent IDR 26.116,76 ± 18.165,21. Average total cost of inpatient with HIV/AIDS spent IDR 541.538,88 ± 382.462,87 per day. This amount including cost of drug spent IDR 170.685,43 ± 180.582,74, cost of non-drug IDR 104.037,64 ± 81.982,80 per day, cost for diagnostic tes spent 130.050,07 ± IDR. 102.005,74 per day, cost of supportive therapy IDR 86.081,07 ± 86.400,32, administration cost spent IDR 10.543,86 ± 4.9996,21 and miscellanous cost IDR 90.031,35 ± 259.411,26.
The average total cost of spent IDR 459.910,63 ± 191.722,31 per month. Largest cost component that must be paid out-patient is the cost of laboratory tests.
