Abstrak/Abstract Urbanization is not a new phenomenon that has taken a lead for many problems in the city such as insecurity. On the other hand, the contemporary urban planning, compact city, appeared for solving that problems. This research would examine the relationship between urban compactness level with urban safety level took place in Yogyakarta. This research uses Pearson’s Correlation analysis to analyze the relationship. Indicators that determine urban compactness level are population densification, activity concentration, public transport intensification, city size, and social welfare. Indicators that determine urban safety level are social, transportation infrastructure, urban land management, prosperity, equality, city size, densification, and natural human-made disaster. The result urban compactness level in Yogyakarta is 65,93% and urban safety level in Yogyakarta is 67,14%. The result from this research showed a weak correlation with 0,345 as the correlation value. The significant value result show 0,227 it is mean that correlation not significant. It is because of the inexactly standard value of urban safety. Other findings prove that compact city has a positive impact on social safety (especially equality). The positive impact of a compact city is reducing Gini ratio, increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and increase population diversity.
