Heritage cities in Indonesia have faced much more complex problems. Environmental changes coupled with the rapid process of modernization, especially the development of new constructions to accommodate socio-cultural and economic changes may destroy the urban heritage buildings, urban history & its traditions.
A heritage city is not only a place of monuments and other tangible cultural heritage, but colored by living natural and cultural heritage and somehow the new lifestyles created within heritage places as well. The sense of utilization and continuity of the historic urban landscape becomes more important than ever before. Management of continuity, allowing for change is the central concept of conservation.
This presentation highlifghts the Mayors/regents initiatives in Indonesia in the establishment of INDONESIAN NETWORK ON HERITAGE CITIES (2008) and the Program on Conservation of Heritage Cities in Indonesia launched and organized by Directorate General of Spatial Planning, Ministry of Public Work in collaboration with Indonesian Heritage Trust (2012-2020). While in the 2013 the Indonesian Charta on Heritage Conservation was launched.

3) The needs of institutional aspect to response this isue
