Abstrak/Abstract Mapping tree crown is an essential part in mangrove inventory and mapping to support management and monitoring of mangrove environment. This study developed a method to delineate individual Avicennia marina mangrove tree crown in Whyte Island (Brisbane, Australia) using the newly emerged GEOBIA approach and compare and contrast the results from pan-sharpened WorldView-2 (WV-2, 0.5m pixel size) and LiDAR data (2.8 points/m2). We used region growing technique modified from Culvenor (2002) to isolate the tree crowns based on the tree crown radiometric topography concept. The result shows that the tree crown delineation from the pan-sharpened WV-2 have more realistic boundary compared to the result from LiDAR data, with an overall accuracy of 68% and 64% respectively. The results demonstrate the potential of GEOBIA approach to delineate mangrove tree crowns, but some improvements are needed in the future.
