Uncontrolled asthma symptoms will exacerbate asthma. Aminofilin is now
rarely used as asthma medication abroad because it shows major side effects,
unlike in Indonesia, which is still widely used and relatively few side effects.
Aminophylline have relatively more affordable price iscompared salbutamol, is
a first-line option in the management of asthma exacerbations required. Both of
these drugs have a risk of causing electrolyte disturbances, which could
endanger the lives of patients. Therefore individual drug side effects, so it was
needed safety study to ascertain whether there are differences in the incidence
of electrolyte disturbances of both drugs. The main objective of this study was
to determine differences in the incidence of electrolyte disturbances in patients
with asthma exacerbations were getting aminophylline and salbutamol at a
hospital in Surabaya and assessed the probability is based on ratings Naranjo
Scale. In a study conducted in October 2014 until March 2015 using quasi
experimental research methods, using two groups, namely the group receiving
intravenas aminophylline therapy (n = 10), and the group receiving nebulized
salbutamol therapy (n = 13). The results showed that the actual side effect
occurred in 18.75% of patients treated with aminophylline and 31.25%
patients treated with salbutamol. No significant differences (P> 0.05) the
incidence of electrolyte disturbances in patients treated with aminophylline
and salbutamol. Although there was no significant difference in the incidence of
electrolyte disturbances in both drugs, but close monitoring is still needed to
prevent side effects more serious. |
