Application of periodical measurements by using reflector-less Total Station (TS) instrument is
extensively used for deformation monitoring. Basic merit of this technique is the monitoring could be
done remotely. So it can be applied for measurement of inacessible man-made structures and risky
natural objects. In order to check the performance and reliability of the TS, periodical calibration for
the instrument was required. In calibrating this device, the instrument with its related reflectors is
necessary to be verified to evaluate its constant and scaling errors. This is often accomplished by
calculations from series of measurements on a calibration baseline. To elaborate the calibration, this
paper presents a parametric least squares formula for constant and scaling correction calculations
based on the series of distances on six sub-baselines. This study calibrated the reflector-less TS to
determine the constant and scaling corrections for its prism and for various material targets. The
survey was performed at JUPEM’s permanent calibration benchmarks at Batu Gajah, Perak
Malaysia. The result shows that the value of the constant and scaling corrections for the prism and the
various targets is less than the values of the instrument’s specification, which means the TS is inis
functioning well and could be used for precise structural deformation monitoring.
