Small efforts are hither to made in cultural and creative industry research to develop a systematic framework for understanding the individual inclination towards entrepreneurial artistic production. . We start this paper with an examination of the artistic concept as used in 50 related articles in the fields of art history, art philosophy, sociology, psychology, and economics. The literature review is complemented with findings from seven in-depth interviews with creative artists in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in order to generate the definition of a new construct named Artistic Orientation. Propositions and recommendations to stimulate future research are also offered. |
