Pharmacists have significant task in ensuring proper consumption of antibiotics. The aims of this study was to identify pharmacist’s attitudes and factor that related to good practice regarding antibiotic stewardship program in community pharmacy. An questionnaire based survey study was conducted among community pharmacists in Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. Pharmacists attending the continuing education monthly program during period of January-March
2019 were selected to participate in this study. A validated self-administered questionnaire was used. Descriptive presentation and logistic regression analysis was conducted to estimate the associated factors of ASP practice. A total of 250 community pharmacists were involved in this study, with response rate of 89%. Pharmacists perceived lack of knowledge and training in ASP on implementing good practice (3.89±2.42). They believed in having a vital role in ASP
(3.76±1.90). Respondents who received training where likely to have a good practice in ASP than those do not received training (OR 2.109, CI 1.827-5.192). Mainly, age less than 30 years old than older age have a good practice in ASP (OR 1.856, CI 1768-3.970). More than 5 years’ experience in patient counseling had significantly higher odds in good practice of ASP than less experience of respondents (OR 1.563, CI 1.563-2.781). Generally, the perceptions and practice regarding the antibiotics stewardship program were positive. Even though, some weak areas like interprofessional collaboration and dispensing antibiotics without prescriptions still need more improvement.
