Optimize natural resources of energy its way to utilization natural energy resources especially in tropical region where optimal sun throughout theyear. Solar energy usefully for daylight and natural lighting system in the building . commercial building is the most consuming energy such as
electric commodity and indoor lighting its has been wasting much energy in the daily times. Natural lighting is often utilized in commercial buildings through the skylights down to halls, lobby and atrium. The purpose of this research is understand the effectiveness of the atrium on one of the commercial buildings in Yogyakarta (Galeria mal) that the use of skylights as an alternative design of Natural lighting. Method used numerical analysis and using software as a tool to measure and simulate sunlight based on sun path. Measuring sunlight using horizontal and vertical section as a judgement sample toward sun path system. Skylight distributed fully from skylights to
the atrium in ground floor area. Result of analysisshowing the effectiveness skylights in Galeria mal its recorded 300Lux in optimum percentage of 90% with range 0-100%. Skylights is very important to optimize solar energy and also decreasing lighting in the daylight
