The aim of this research was choosing a filler material for unsaturated polyester resain (UPR) matrix of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) composite roofing sheets. The addition of a filler in the matrix is intended to reduce price composite. There are three fillers chosen, calcium carbonate, aluminium hydroxide (alumina), am=nd talc. The weight composition of the FRP composite is thirty percent of reinforcement and seventy percent of resain. Carbon black is chosen as an additive which is expected to improve the material properties as well as the influence of UV and heat. FRP composite samples thicknesses are 3=2 mm and 3 mm. they are made of E-glass chopped strand mat as reinforcement and UPR as matrix.
The physical and mechanical properties composite materials are evaluated at the beginning and after the conditioned weather. There are two types of weather that are conditioned on the composite materials, artificial and natural weather. The parameters to evaluated quality of the materials are color, flexural strength, and tensile strength. Yhe physical observation shows that carbon black is not suitable as an additive. Not only causes a black color on the materials, carbon black also removes translucency properties. The complete physical and mechanical properties evaluation shows that alumina is the best filler comparing to the others, calcium carbonate and talc.
