Placemaking is a process creating places and focuses on transforming public spaces to strengthen the connections between people and their needs, aspirations, desires, and visions and these places, which relies strongly on community participation (PPS, 2007). However, placemaking is not a new idea. Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urban writer and activist who championed new, communitybased approaches to planning for over 40 years.
The students will learn how the changing paradigm on urban planning and design in US and Asian countries have been affected on strengthening in connecting neighborhoods, including the cases in Yogyakarta Indonesia. |
