Hermu is a lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). He earned his Master’s degree in Sustainable Forest Management from the University of Florida (2015–2017), after completing his Bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Forestry, UGM. He began his Doctoral studies at the University of Florida in 2020 with full sponsorship from LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education).

His professional career began in 2007 as a researcher in a pulp and paper company, followed by a decade of experience as an independent auditor and trainer at a certification body. His extensive field audit experience—covering natural forest management, timber plantations, community forests, timber and pulp/paper industries, and oil palm plantations—has provided him with a strong foundation for his current role as a lecturer and researcher.

Hermu is also actively involved in professional organizations such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), and the Society of American Foresters (SAF), among others, to expand his professional network.

His areas of certification expertise include Forest Management and Chain of Custody (FSC/PEFC), Timber Legality Assurance System (TLAS/SVLK), IRCA ISO 9001, Sustainable Production Forest Management (PHPL), RSPO Supply Chain, ISCC, Greenhouse Gases, and RSPO Principles & Criteria (P&C).

He is passionate about academic activities—writing, researching, teaching, and community service—and is always open to collaboration with others.
